#review; Sad Girls.

this time, I tried to write a review about a debut novel from my favorite poet, Lang Leav.
she just had her very first debut novel titled Sad Girls. when Lang announced that she just released a novel, I'm so excited because I've been adoring her poetry since her first poetry book, Love & Misadventures. one thing about Lang's poetry that I love the most is her "dark" side. I don't know much about her love life, but I think it's because maybe she's been at the point where all her sadness made her took a pen and start writing. and God, I love her masterpiece!
so, now I'm gonna talk about "Sad Girls".
this novel had not much difference from her poetry, still "dark", but you could find some of philosophical feelings. the story began when the main character, Audrey, accidentally had been spreading a big lie about a girl who's been in the same school with her named Ana. Audrey had no idea that her words would make such a big deal in her life. because of the rumours, Ana chose to ended her life by suicide. Audrey thought that Ana chose to suicide because of the lie she'd been spreading all around the school and town, and so on she's suffering a psychological sickness (anxiety disorder) due to Ana's death. by then, Rad, who's been lonely because his girlfriend just died, met Audrey at Ana's funeral. unexpectedly, the two young teenagers got along so well, like they're just meant to each other.

this is where the real conflict began, Audrey had a boyfriend, Duck, the boy who lived at the same neighborhood and they've been together since they're kids. for Audrey, Duck was like her life savior because at one moment when Audrey chose to ended her life long time ago by drowned herself in a lake, Duck came and saved her. by then, they're officialy became lovers. Audrey owe him a life and not to mention that she loved Duck as much as he did. after Audrey met Rad at Ana's funeral that night, everything seemed so different. basically, Audrey and Rad just had a chit chat about "life", but she never met a boy who understood her as well as Rad did, not even Duck. Rad, on the other side, felt the same about Audrey.

I love how Lang describes the word "love" in this novel. not just by a couple of cheesy-easy sentences, more than that, she told us what to do when we're so confused by the "love" itself. she isn't just telling us how to love a person, but how to love ourselves. and most importantly, how to deal with sadness and heal it. Lang also tells us that "love" could be a wonderwall at one point, but at the other point "love" also destroys us to pieces. how broken heart could change a person one hundred-eighty degrees, like the universe has ended. this is what broken heart means to us, literally. in this novel, Lang also tells us that we couldn't expect when the "love" is coming, it just came, like a thunderstorm in the middle of summer. and when we 'trapped' by the love itself, we almost don't know where or when to end, except we choose to end it.

one of my favorite quote from this novel taken by Lang from one of her poetry;
"your first love isn't the first person you give your heart to — it's the first one who breaks it."

I wanna tell you guys that this novel is really worth to read!
by the 'light' story, you could find so many deep feelings inside this book. Lang isn't just talk about love, but she also talks about how to conquer your fears. and one more thing, Lang wants to tell us that love couldn't stop us to reach our highest dream. a broken heart doesn't mean that your universe has ended, it's a sign that you have to start to catch your dream and make it possible, to go out from your comfort zone.

and I have to tell you guys one more time, this is a masterpiece!
happy reading!
